Why I Changed My Business Name | Rachel Howerton Photography
Hey pretties! I have some exciting news! I’m changing my business name. But it’s something that isn’t truthfully that new to me…or even most of you that know me personally! I’m changing it to my married last name!
I got married two years ago. And the funny part was that my married last name is SO similar to my maiden last name. I started my business officially as Rachel Hawthorne Photography back in 2012. When I got married, truth be told, I was totally too lazy to change it. I figured “They’re so similar! Why change it? No one will notice!” And that’s true. No one really noticed! And that’s part of the reason on why I decided to change it!
I started my business just as a hobby and then went full time as a photographer back in 2014. I got married in January of 2015 and my last named changed from Hawthorne to Howerton. Yes. That’s right. They’re seriously so similar that most people don’t even notice that they’re different. But the thing is, to me, they totally are different! When I think back on who I was as Rachel Hawthorne, I remember a young adult who was still figuring it out! I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life yet. I knew that I didn’t want to go off to college to pursue a degree I didn’t want. I knew I didn’t want to continue working in coffee or sales. I was totally lost on what path I was going to choose! But when my husband (then boyfriend) pushed me to go forward with photography full time, I was hesitant but went for it. Best. Decision. Ever. The only other best decision was that I married him. And so jump forward to who Rachel Howerton is – I still don’t have it all figured out! But that’s okay. What I do know is that I’m a dedicated photographer, a hardworking businesswoman, a wife to a wonderful & supportive man, and that this is the path that I was meant to be on! While I have absolutely no ill will to my maiden name, it’s just not who I am anymore. And I want people to know that my name is Rachel Howerton, not Rachel Hawthorne!
I’ve spent most of this week getting my ducks in a row for changing over my business name and I couldn’t be more excited. Everything is staying just the same with my business so don’t worry, it’s just my name that’s changing! So here I am – Rachel Howerton Photography.
