Austin & Shasta’s Anniversary Session at Fort Casey

I want to start off by Saying that I can’t believe that Austin & Shasta have been married for 9 months already! I know that I’m labeling this session as an anniversary, but hey, we’re close enough! These two decided to elope in the Bahamas – just the two of them saying their “I Do’s” on the beach. But Shasta still had a dream of taking photos on a gorgeous cliff side overlooking the water here in Washington, so I was determined to make that happen! She had originally loved the idea of Friday Harbor, but I had recently visited Fort Casey and thought it was just what she was looking for (and quite a bit closer to us, too!). We decided on a sunset session because…sunsets are the best, duh!

This session was a little bit of an adventure because we had some unexpected bumps in the road trying to get to our session! We did this session on a weeknight hoping to avoid Ferry Traffic…but we were definitely wrong! We got on the 7:00 Mukilteo to Clinton ferry in hopes to getting to Fort Casey around 7:45 (sunset was scheduled for 8:30pm). Fort Casey is maybe only 20-25 minutes from the Clinton ferry terminal, so we thought it should be a breeze once we hit the other side! But we were wrong – we didn’t anticipate that after 7:00pm, they were doing construction on the main road that goes through Whidbey Island making it go down to ONE lane! I have to say that it was a little stressful because we didn’t have a ton of time left for light and I just REALLY wanted them to get the gorgeous sunset! We sat in traffic for what felt like AGES but FINALLY arrived to Fort Casey at 8:05 giving us only 25 minutes to shoot this session! However, the images turned out SO perfect. We had the most beautiful golden hour followed by a beautiful sunset. Despite our little adventure, it worked out! Here are some favorites!
